Caturday

Pre-Christmas-- Squirt offering to help with the wrapping...

And helping with the clean-up after the festivities.

Whilst Pip couldn't give a rat's ass about any of it.

My Life!

So I work at a grocery store and I have a degree in Psychology. This often feels like my life!

When Uncle Sam Doesn't Like You...

So, this was the very best thing I've seen all week! I think the eagle speaks for all of us! I'm not going to talk about him (not even going to use his name), mainly because I can't stand him, never have.  But there is something I've noticed the last few days, something I'm been pondering: The "polls" keep giving him these high numbers, but I can't find one person in my area (and it's a heavy Republican area) that supports him. Now, I've got a few theories, because I always have theories: 1) they support him but are too ashamed to admit it, 2) I've managed to block every person and site on my FB that supports him, or 3) the numbers have been screwed with. Take your pick!

Even Colbert got into the spirit of things! (maybe he should run for President!)

Things I Found--Pre-Xmas Addition

Christmas shopping, for the most part, is done. I spent an hour or two on "Cyber Monday" on a couple of sites and got the bulk of what I needed, which wasn't much. A handful of presents for the daughter, son and hubby.  We got out of the "present madness" a few years back and quit buying for extended family that we don't see anyway. Christmas is simple at our house.

But there is still plenty of Christmas Spirit!

Funny Bone--Post Thanksgiving Addition

Why we will probably not have a tree this year-- I imagine with Squirt around, it'll faint daily.

We may just have to do this:

Flash back to my teen years!

Because College is Expensive!

So this is a bit of a plug for my daughter, who has just started a Redbubble store. Right now she just has a few items listed, all Christmas themed, but hopefully she will be adding more later, probably fan-based items. Anyway, take a look here. And thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Funny Bone, But In A Strange Mood

I'm not ready for the Holidays. Nope. Would be happy to skip 'em this year:

And I tend to find humor in the morbid at times:

And, well, who wouldn't:

Because Some People Just Don't Get It

Wow-- it's amazing how Facebook exploded with the whole "scandal" of the red cup, and it appears that most of my Christian friends see it as ridiculous. (Personally, I find the red to be quite festive.) Who even started it? Does anyone know? I'm guessing Faux News, but that's just an educated guess. Or maybe Trump. It's possible he has a beef with Starbucks. Anyway, he made a fair amount of noise during his Springfield appearance about it (sullying my state just by being here). Now my husband wants one of those cups so he can carry it around at work, just to see if some of the holier then thou people he works with will comment. (No, he's not passive/aggressive at all--okay, maybe quite alot.) My guess is, in the long run, it's just going to get Starbucks more business, instead of the reverse. I don't go there often, simply because I'm fine with black coffee that I can get at Casey's for a buck, but this might just prompt a visit when I travel to "the big city" this weekend. Okay, Effingham isn't really a big city, but my little village doesn't host any Christian persecuting coffee shops. In the mean time, I guess my non-Christian household will just have to make do with  red Solo cups!

Halloween Is Over

I've always loved Christmas, but right at this moment I think I would be happy to just skip it. Oh, I'm sure I wouldn't, but I would love to keep it very simple. Which may happen. I'm sure Squirt is going to see a Christmas tree as one big kitty toy, so we may not even put one up. The same goes for most of my holiday decorations. Cat toys, all. And the gift giving is going to be, by necessity, limited. I think I'm just dreading cold weather, to be honest! I used to love this time of year; cuddling up with a throw blanket and a cup of hot chocolate and a book. I'm dreading losing my lounge chair on the deck in the sun with a cold beer in my hand.

Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah. I just ran out to Dollar General for fabric softener and there is Christmas stuff all over the place. I'm surprised they weren't playing Christmas music! Let the holiday's commence!

Things I Found While Looking Around

There is so much "funny" to find when we aren't looking at the stuff that isn't. The stuff that isn't just about gives me a nervous breakdown at times-- hence I stop when I feel myself slipping and embrace the things that tickle my funny bone. So I may start posting them here once a week or so, just so I have something to go back to when things are getting too heavy! Cheers!

Morning Coffee

Life things are fairly tense at the moment, doing their best to make me crazy. But these two are always consistent--into everything, running through the house like a herd of elephants, watching the squirrels (who are extremely active right now--they're a show of their own!) and then sleeping so they can do it all again.

I've survived every bump in the road so far, I'll survive this one. The fact that it's my daughter's bump, not my own, probably makes it feel worse.

But, once a parent, always a parent. I don't think I was adequately warned back in my 20's before I decided to get pregnant!
So, deep breath, brain storm, and back into the fray! And always with a smile on my face!

Garden Diaries

Well, the garden was almost a wash, but I have been gradually replacing my flower beds with edibles the last few years and the plants there have done remarkably well. Which means I have spent the morning canning pizza sauce (and one jar of pickles while I was in the middle of everything). So there's that, anyway!

Ringing In My Head

The Cicadas are out in full-force. I'm not sure if we are in some 13- or 17- year cycle or if it's just the annual species, but, oh my, there sure is a bunch of them and they are very loud. Not helping my tinnitus at all! I noticed these on my little maple tree outside, all lined up as if they were out for a duck-walk and decided it was a nice spot to moult. The tree is covered with shells. I was fascinated by "locusts" when I was little, collecting the shells and sometimes even the insects (which Dad would never let me keep in the house, although I tried). And I guess as an adult, I still am. Except for that infernal noise!

Morning Coffee

The kittens are  going to be a year old soon and it's been fun watching them grow and develop such different personalities. Squirt, the tabby, is very playful and affectionate, while Pip here is more reserved and quiet. Which is why it surprised me this morning when he joined me at my desk and tried to wiggle himself into his old spot. He doesn't fit quite as well as he used to, but he made it work! He's been rewarded with much ear scratching--maybe he'll join me more often!
