Morning Coffee

He doesn't understand why I get to be outside and he doesn't. After what happened to our last two kitties, he's just going to have to wonder-- and watch from the window!

Garden Diary, First Entry

So, I like to keep a garden "diary" here so I can look back year to year and see how things progressed. I meant to start three weeks ago after everything was tilled and first planted. Okay, so I'm a bit behind! Anyway, potatoes, green beans and peas are coming up, along with a couple of zucchini. I don't know if my seed was too old, or if it's because of the weather, but I had some various other seeds spread here and there and they didn't make an appearance. It's been rather dry this spring, I hope it's not a precursor to what's to come.
The raccoons got into my corn last year, so I'm skipping it entirely. Tomatoes and green peppers are in my (former) flower bed. Rhubarb has done well, asparagus is a bit thin and the gooseberries are almost ready.

I'm going to replant cucumber and okra and pumpkins. Then cross my fingers and hope for the best!

Life In Illinois

Farming season is in full swing! This is what life in Illinois is like this time of year. Well, off and on again until the crops are in and snow is falling!

Morning Coffee

Copy Cats-- because what one does, the other has to do, also. Which is good. That's why I got two kittens instead of one, so they would bond and have each other.

I'll Be Wearing Orange

On June 2, people across the country will wear orange to honor all those who have been killed -- and inspire action to stop the gun violence that takes too many lives in America.
Why orange? It's a color that symbolizes the value of human life. Hunters wear orange to alert other hunters that they're there -- as a way to take care of their own life and the lives of others. Now, we're turning orange into a symbol for the value of human life everywhere.

Warning To Expectant Mothers

I'm one of these people-- the kind with a name that doesn't show up on peg boards. When a pregnant woman starts talking names I always suggest they not be cute or original with the spelling-- the kid won't thank them! For some reason this subject has been on my mind quite a lot lately, just because I get called by the wrong name daily and sometimes it doesn't bother me and some times it does. I keep thinking I'm going to get a shirt printed with some cryptic message. Oh, well, it would probably just go over most people's heads anyway. (We all have our crosses to bear!)
